Youth Coalition

The Holly Area Community Coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to substance abuse prevention and positive youth development.

Vision:

The Holly Area Community Coalition envisions a community of youth who have been empowered to make positive life choices.

Mission:

The mission of the Holly Area Community Coalition is to work in partnership with the community to empower youth to make positive life choices, thereby reducing the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs among area youth. We are here to provide opportunities for youth and adults to develop assets that will prevent youth from making destructive decisions.

Office hours: Monday - Friday 9:30 - 3:30
Phone: 248-328-3135

A few examples of coalition initiatives are: Lifeskills Character Building program for 4th, 5th and 6th grade students, The STAND Group for 7th and 8th grade students, Holly High School Youth Action Board, Youth Dialogue Day at Holly High School, Town Hall Meetings and Parent Education opportunities, the Parents Who Host, Lose the Most and Not a Minor Problem Campaigns, Sticker Shock and Synar Tobacco Compliance Checks. We are also working with High School students to develop social marketing campaigns to target the problem of youth riding with someone who has been drinking and other youth substance abuse issues. Contact us for more information on any of these initiatives.

The Holly Area Community Coalition has an open meeting policy and always welcomes new members and ideas. We meet on the third Monday of each month. Location and times vary so please contact us to attend a meeting. Please join us to find out ways you can get involved.

Alternatives to Pain Medication

Did you know?
  • Over 2.7 million Americans abused prescription painkillers in the past year.
  • Painkillers and heroin have the same chemical structure and similar effects on the body.
  • There in a product out that is being marketed as "incense" and youth are purchasing it legally and smoking it to get a marijuana-like high.
Join us on Monday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Physiotherapy Associates, located at 1016 N.Saginaw in Holly to learn about these and other facts and trends. Anar Guru, Physical Therapist, will discuss ways of managing chronic pain without medication; Scott Masi, from Brighton Hospital, will discuss Prescription Drug abuse trends and the process of addiction; and Elena Danishevskaya,Village of Holly Police Chief, will discuss current youth trends and what is happening locally.
